In 2018, Choose a Challenge took the Travellers Against Plastic (TAP) pledge to help fight the harmful consumption of single-use plastics through our operations. On all of our international treks, water is purified from local sources for participants, which means you don’t have to rely on disposable water bottles.

Even in the most remote areas where we operate, our teams prioritise large, decantable cooler bottles which are later recycled, hence our ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ mantra.

As we now reach the stage of our journey where we can eliminate single-use plastics entirely, we rely on participants to share this ethos and bring only reusable water containers.

Plastic waste, over the years, have done great harm to the landscapes and ecosystems of the parts of the world we visit, and with the privilege that comes from being able to take trekkers to these incredible locations, also comes a collective responsibility for ensuring they remain clean and litter-free.

We therefore request that you keep any litter (such as crisp packets and snack bar wrappings) in your pocket or your bag until you find a suitable means of disposal. If in doubt, please speak to your guides or porters, as they will let you know what to do with it.

Principally, we leave each site exactly as we found it, so that others may enjoy the beauty of these natural environments, and we can continue leading expeditions in these amazing destinations.

We hope you found the above information useful. If you have any questions or concerns about your particular destination, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
