When taking on a high altitude, multi-day trek, you should not expect to have hot showers daily. However, there will be hot running water available at certain points on your itinerary. Below you will find some useful information for each of our overseas destinations:

Machu Picchu

Your accommodation in Cusco will have hot running water, as will the accommodation in Aguas Calientes (this is where you stay the night before you reach Machu Picchu). You can often pay a small amount for showers during the trek itself, but these are typically cold. If you have signed up to the Amazon Explorer extension trip, your guesthouse accommodation will have hot showers included.

Kilimanjaro

Your accommodation in Moshi will have hot running water. During the trek, our guides will give you some warm water to wash with each morning, so don’t forget to bring soap! If you are signed up to the Safari and Zanzibar extension trip, your beachfront bungalow accommodation will be equipped with hot running water for showering.

Everest Base Camp

Your accommodation in Kathmandu will have hot running water. During the trek, each of the teahouses you stay at will have cold running water. At some of these locations, such as Namche Bazaar, you will be able to pay a small amount to the host for a hot shower. If you are signed up to our Chitwan Safari extension trip, hot showers will be readily available at your accommodation.

Morocco High Atlas

Your accommodation in Imlil will have hot running water, as will the shared riad accommodation in Marrakech. During the trek, our guides will give you some warm water to wash with each morning (again, don't forget to pack the soap!). If you are signed up to our Edge of the Sahara extension trip, warm showers may be available during the nights in which you stay at hostel/hotel accommodation.

Please note: Hot water at the above locations is often operated from a generator, which may be switched off for several hours during the night in order to conserve power. To find out about the timings, please speak either to your guide or to your accommodation host.

Hadrian's Wall

Your accommodation throughout the trek will be at various campsites along the wall path. You will have access to running water at all sites, however we can not guarantee hot showers at all of them. By way of setting expectation, you can expect a warm shower on at least two of the four nights.

We hope the above information is helpful. If you have any questions or concerns about your particular destination, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
